Founded in 1861, St. George is now one of Southern Utah's fastest growing cities.

Red bluffs make up the nothern part of the city with the northeastern edges of the Mojave Desert visible to the south. The Zion National Park can be seen to the east and the Pine Valley Mountain rises over the city to the north and northwest.

The climate is more of a desert southwest climate than the rest of Utah - hot summers and mild winters.
